How To Stay Out Of Other Drivers’ Blind Spots

One of the things you have to consider when driving is that today you need to be a defensive driver if you want to avoid getting into automobile accidents. There are simply more drivers on the road than anytime before, and many of these drivers are distracted by all types of mobile devices making it an even more dangerous situation. One thing you need to consider when driving on the road today is how to avoid being in the blind spot of other drivers. This involves you paying much more attention to the road, but will result in you putting yourself in less opportunities to get into an accident.

Every driver that is around you on the road has several blind spots around their vehicle. If they are making lane changes too quickly and your vehicle happens to be in their blind spot, you run the risk of getting into a serious accident. The key is to try and put yourself in a position where they can see you better. The first thing you need to do is maintain a safe driving distance between you ant the cars in front of you. If you remember when you took your driving test, the appropriate distance is one car length for every tens miles an hour you are traveling. If your car is traveling at twenty miles an hour, maintain a two car length gap between you and cars in front of you.

When you are traveling at high rates of speed, and are staying too close to the traffic in front of you, your car is going to be in a blind spot many times. If you find you are speeding, simply let go of the gas and put some distance between you and the other cars. When you are moving on the highways and you are moving up in the fast lane and passing other cars, be sure to move past them in a timely manner. The longer your car is next to another car, the longer you are potentially in their blind spot. If you are traveling the same speed as the car in the lane next to you, avoid riding slightly behind them. This is where their blind spots are. If you can not get in front of them, don’t ride alongside them. Fall back a few feet to allow them to see you in their side mirrors.

One other way to make certain other drivers see you, keep your headlights on during the day. Many times the light will reflect off metal objects and help identify to the other driver something is alongside them even if they can not clearly see your car. The headlights will hit chrome and metal, making it easier for others to see and remember that you are riding along the side of their car. By implementing a few defensive driving techniques, you limit the chance of being in another drivers blind spot. If you can stay out of the blind spot, you reduce the chances of getting involved in serious motor vehicle accidents.
